Here is an article about the rising cost of pharmaceuticals that will offset any gains from cutting prices in health care reform bill. Money, money, money...
So often in these sorts of circumstances, it seems that officials will say, "This has nothing to do with (insert influential event that is happening/has happened)". We were just talking about this in health, for example, one month after Supersize Me came out, "Supersize" was taken off the menu. McDonalds said there was no connection with the movie.
The companies may say the bill has nothing to do with it, but of course it does. They all want the most money.
it is really upsetting to me how everything seems to be going right to money, i feel like there should be a way to not have everything be so connected to just making more money. these are medicines to help people not be ill, and people are figuring its ok to try to make a bigger profit from this? what about just the fact that its helping them?
"But drug companies say they are having to raise prices to maintain the profits necessary to invest in research and development of new drugs as the patents on many of their most popular drugs are set to expire over the next few years."
Caught my attention as most outside research and development comes from other businesses/countries. I guess one reason would be that the vaccine for swine flue has cost a lot of money.
"This year’s increases mean the average annual cost for a brand-name prescription drug that is taken daily would be more than $2,000 — $200 higher than last year, Professor Schondelmeyer said." All these companies want is the money. There is no need for rising brand-name prescription drugs, were in a recession! Do they just not get it?
People can't even afford their prescriptions anymore because the prices keep going up "Despite having drug insurance, Mr. White says he now pays $110 a month out of pocket for two brand-name allergy medicines, even as he has cut prices in his jewelry store by at least 40 percent to keep customers coming through the door." Other people have to cut down on their prices on their own small businesses to keep the customers coming in, why are the drug makers raising their prices?
