My second article, from ABC news, is here. This article speculates the effects a Swine Flu epidemic or pandemic would have on the economy. There are many other articles about the swine flu effect on the economy in different parts of the world, including the UK and Mexico, among others. I found this article through a google news search entitled "swine flu economic recession".

this is really interesting because i wasn't completely aware of the consequences of people not being able to obtain health care. i cant believe that the lack of health care deaths are greater then drunk driving, suicides and murders. really interesting and makes it clear that barack is fighting the industries and gaining coverage to create lower prices of health care which people can afford.
ReplyDeleteThe article on swine flu is interesting because I didn't realize how it would hurt the economy and what kind of effect it would have. Because a lot of people do not have healthcare if people with out it got sick they would be in an awful situation.
ReplyDeleteThe first article on deaths caused by lack of Health insurance surprised me. Feeling as though i've been ignorant on that situation, the article helped explain to me why health care is such an important aspect of living in todays society and why the push of reducing health care costs is so important.
ReplyDelete"Overall, researchers said American adults age 64 and younger who lack health insurance have a 40 percent higher risk of death than those who have coverage."
I found that to be horrible and terrifying. 40% is such a high rate.
It's a little embarrassing how ignorant I was about the effect of swine flew on the economy. But some of these numbers seem a little much, especially as this article was written in March when people did not know what Swine Flue would actually be like. Now we know that it wasn't actually as bad as some of the numbers predicted in the article.
ReplyDeleteHealth care in the economy is definitely an issue. I just didn't realize the extent of it. Like Victoria said it's amazing how many deaths there are related to such a thing like lack of healthcare. it just shows how much our country needs to change.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be interesting to see the specific examples of death due to lack of healthcare. like, would it be from someone who wasn't able to get surgery, or a someone who wasn't able to get a vaccine for swine flu for example.
ReplyDeleteI find it odd that your chance of having a terminal condition is increased by 40% if you are 64 or *younger* as opposed to older, seeing that the younger you are, generally the stronger your immune system.
Your second article is very interesting because it shows a major problem with the healthcare system in our country. It shows that our country's lack of a good healthcare system could actually cost more than investing in a good system.
